Calm Your job Interview Jitters

I've been in the business world for ... well, let's don't go there. My point is, I still get nervous when meeting a potential client or employer. Almost everyone does. Here's some suggestions for calming your nerves.

  • Breathe deeply. Take slow, deep breaths through your nose, so your throat isn't dried out.
  • Move slowly and deliberately. No, not as slow as molasses pouring in December, but slow enough so that you don't drop your purse, stumble, or make other awkward gaffes.
  • Drop and relax your shoulders. This will help you relax and release tension.
  • Smile. Your object is to communicate warmth and friendliness.
  • Laugh only when appropriate. Frequent laughter only reveals your nervousness.
  • Practice at home in front of the mirror, using common interview questions found in books or on various website.
